Have you had your shot of Spirulina today?
Spirulina – tiny yet TERRIFIC - is a blue-green micro-algae known to be rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids and antioxidants that can help protect cells from damage.
Spirulina is a easily digestible complete plant protein which contains multiple nutrients, including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid which is an essential fatty acid.
This wide array of nutritional components makes it a valuable SUPERFOOD for use in human foods and health supplements, as well as a feed extender for livestock.
Spirulina is considered to be a valuable tool in the fight against world hunger and is proven to offer remarkable health benefits to any who is undernourished.
Dr. Aaron Wolf Baum is a NASA scientist who now specializes in the production of Spirulina. He is a Spirulina enthusiast who hosts workshops and writes books on, you guessed it,....Spirulina.
Dr Baum explains his fascination with this blue-green algae as follows:
“Spirulina increases the nutritional value of any food you mix it with. It is easy and safe to grow. Just a tablespoon of Spirulina can replace a whole salad.
It is harvested by passing the liquid culture through a special fabric that will pass the water through and leave a concentrated paste of Spirulina spirals.
Every other plant has a cellulose cell wall around all its cells to protect it, however Spirulina has no cellulose wall making it 100% digestible.
Spirulina has twice as much protein as meat and the rest is vitamins and minerals – similar to what you get from dark, leafy greens but in concentrated form. You can only fit so much food in your body each day but just by adding a teaspoon of Spirulina to your diet you can boost your nutrient intake and increase your vitality.”
